SPACEMETER

Space Meter is an instrument that spans and measures the space between two walls in a room. The key to this project lies in the in-between. Both the immediate space between the two exhibition walls. And a more subtle in-between-space that occur in a magnetic field. A string is stretched by magnetic force, but is at the same time held back by its length - precisely so that the magnet and the wall do not to touch each other. At the end of the string is a turned wood funnel. The funnel ‘floats’ in space a few millimetres from the opposite wall. This creates an intense field of tension where gravity seems overruled. The work springs from Eske Rex’ exploration of the ability of magnets to float, carried by their own pull.

TWO VANTAGE POINTS

Two vantage points to Sejerø Festival 2011. One strapped to a stone in the water’s edge facing out over the water, the other with the back to the sea with a view over fields and countryside. The festival took place at a nearby old mansion, and guests had the opportunity to use vantage points for a minute’s silence alone with nature. The materials to vantage points are old materials from the farm.

BLUE / RED

Drawing series of 11 drawings that differentiate from blue to red. Each drawing has 10 drawing layers, the first has 10 layers of blue, then 9 blue layers with 1 layer of red, 8 blue layers with 2 layers of red, etc. Up to 10 layers of red on the 11th and the last drawing. Each drawing measures 100 x 100 cm. Ballpen on paper.

Drawing Series of 9 drawings that evolves over golden Fibonacci sequence of numbers. From a single layer on the first drawing to 55 layers in the ninth and final drawing. The drawing serie appears as a gradient from light to dark, reflecting how much time the machine has drawn on each drawing..

GRINDER

Grinder is constructed using the same principle as the Drawing Machine. But where the Drawing Machine works with pen on paper, the Grinder cuts and drills into the surface of  metal, glass and wood. The idea behind constructing Grinder is based on the desire to work in materials, that can be incorporated directly into space / architecture. For example floor, surfaces and facades.

BLACK BLUE RED GREEN

Series of four wall-sized drawings, after the dogma: Four days, four drawings, four colors. Each morning in the studio was a new color pen mounted in Drawing Machine. Throughout the day the pendulum are kept going by continually pushing the pendulum. Only when the pen had to be replaced there was a short stay. Approximately 10 hours of continuous drawing. Each drawing measures: 272 x 272 cm. Ballpoint pen on paper.

Exhibited at the opening of Spinderihallernein, Vejle.

DRAWING MACHINE
Drawingmachine is a construction involving two pendulums, each suspended from a tower construction and connected through “drawing arms” and moveable joints. A ballpoint pen resting on a drawing surface covered with paper is mounted at the point where the pendulums come together. The pendulums are set in motion by hand, and their movements are represented on the paper. The Drawing Machine serves to purposes: On exhibitions where the movements of the pendulums affect the entire room, and the experience engages the beholder’s body. While the rhythmic repetitions cause the beholder to pause, the drawing emerges on the paper. And as a tool where investigations on the relation between time and movement.
